Biography Sallust Gaius
) (86-35 BC. e.) Born in g. Amitern in a prominent plebeian family. At 52 was elected tribune. In 50 Sallust was expelled from the Senate, perhaps, for immoral behavior, but next year he was reinstated by Caesar, and later received quaestorship. At 47-46 in praetorship participated in Caesar's African campaign, and he became a deputy in the end of Numidia. The money acquired during the administration of the province, Sallust gave a splendid gardens in Rome, where, and departed, leaving behind the death of Caesar's public life. From the works of Sallust Catiline Conspiracy preserved (De coniuratione Catilinae) and the war with Jugurtha (Bellum Iugurthinum), as well as fragments of stories, covering the period from 78 to 67 BC. Assessment, this Sallust Catalina, coincides with the opinion of Cicero. Suspicions regarding the participation in the conspiracy Caesar, Sallust rejects.
