Biography Sammartini Giovanni Battista (Sammartini Giovanni Battista)
(1701-1775)
Born in 1701 in Milan. Sammartini served as organist at several churches in Milan, from 1730 to 1770 was director of music at the monastery of Santa Maria Maddalena. In the period between 1737 and 1741 he took lessons in the famous Austrian composer Gluck KF.
Sammartini different fertility, especially in the instrumental genres. He - one of the main representatives of the gallant style, transitional style between the baroque and classical era. It is possible that Sammartini symphonies (TN. predklassicheskie symphony) had some influence on Haydn and Mozart, though he denied such an influence Haydn. In addition to operas, masses, symphonies, numerous string quartets and quintets, in the legacy of the composer about 200 trio sonatas. Sammartini died in Milan on Jan. 15, 1775.

Older brother Giovanni, Giuseppe, was a famous oboist and composer, most of his professional life took place in London.
