Biography RBM Antonio JosöL de (Sucre Antonio Jos de)
Born in Cumanö¦ in Venezuela on Feb. 3, 1795. In 16 years, was promoted to colonel in 1818 became General of the Army rebels. In 1822, under the command of Sucre insurgents defeated the Spanish in the Battle of Pichincha province and freed Quito (sovr. Ecuador). Three months after Bolivar's victory at the Battle of Junö-n (Aug. 1824) Sucre completed the rout of the Spaniards in the Battle of Ayacucho. Then Sucre liberated Upper Peru, where he established an independent republic under the name of Bolivia. The supreme power in the new republic was proposed by Bolivar, but that in connection with the departure to Colombia (December 1825) transferred his powers to Sucre, which in 1826 was elected the first president of Bolivia. In 1828 dissatisfaction with the president of the local population, led to a foreigner rebellion, Sucre resigned and went to Quito with the intent to withdraw from political activity. However, in 1830, Bolö-var persuaded him to become president of the National Congress of Gran Colombia. Attempt to preserve the integrity of the State of Bolivar failed, and Sucre resigned. He was killed near Paso in Colombia June 4, 1830.
