Biography ERMA Adolf (Erman Adolf)
(1854-1937) Born in Berlin on October 31, 1854. The first edition of his Grammar novoegipetskogo language (Neugyptische Grammatik) came out in 1880, and the most famous work - The grammar of the Egyptian language (gyptische Grammatik) - 1894. Ehrman first drew attention to the relationship of the Egyptian and Semitic languages, highlighted the stages of the Egyptian language, and insisted on the need to study the Coptic language as a prerequisite for the study of hieroglyphic writing. Prepared under the guidance of the Egyptian language Dictionary (Wrterbuch der gyptischen Sprache) remains a reliable reference work in the field of Egyptology. Herman taught at the University of Berlin, and his pupils, among whom were G. Shteyndorf and K. Zete, formed a circle of Egyptologists, known as the Berlin School. He was director of Berlin's Egyptian Museum.
