People's Artist of the USSR, member of the Academy of Arts. Born into a peasant family. Early left an orphan, was raised in an orphanage. Passion for art led Mr.. the Moscow Higher Art School, graduated (1930). The first works devoted collective farms. The most famous was his painting "At the dinner to his mother" (1935). It was acquired by the Tretyakov Gallery, and in 1937. Soviet art was represented at the international exhibition in Paris and was awarded a Gold Medal. In 1939, Mr.. G. participated in the creation of a panel of the monumental "The noble people of the country of the Soviets" in New York. In the painting "After the expulsion of the fascist occupiers" (1946) was awarded the State Prize. The first version of this picture (1944) G. handed Smolenskomumzyu (exhibited at the Art Gallery). G. - The artist a wide range of. He created historical and personal paintings, landscapes, still lifes. Worked in the field of graphics, illustrations. G. He taught at art schools of Moscow, was elected executive secretary of the organizing committee of the Union of Artists, was a permanent member of the editorial board of "Artist". He was buried in his homeland. In September 1996, Mr.. Moscow was a big solo exhibition of the artist.
