Childhood years spent in Smolensk. In 1899. graduated from the Smolensk gymnasium and entered the St. Petersburg Mining Institute, which he graduated in 1906. Back at Smolensk, D. became director of the vocational school. He was a member of the Smolensk society people's universities, helping young artillery officer, GV. Alekhnovich (see) to build a glider.
