In the famous chess Oxford dictionary is remarkable picture. In the picture in 1984, made in London before the opening of the tournament, Lloyd Bank, depicted the ex-champion Boris Spassky, the star of the British Chess Nigel Short, and a twelve-year boy smiling shyly. I do not know, did then Michael Adams (a kid in the photo was he), that someday will become the first British chess player, but the vision of the photographer can only envy.
Even then, Adams was given the status of future super-stars. Like Short, Michael did not waste time on the university and graduated from high school in 16 years, at seventeen became a professional chess. In the chess world, many have nicknames, but as a rule they somehow beat a name or surname of a Grandmaster. Adams is one of the few who got his apt and, in general, the honorary nickname of "spiderman" (Spiderman) because of the style of play. Adams is rarely controversial debut in the current versions and carrying the fight to the middle game. The board, Michael ultimately collected and concentrated. It has a remarkable calm and cool considers options. Like not making brilliant moves, it gradually seemed to envelop its prey sticky webs, and when she realizes that things are bad, it is usually too late. Here also, we can say, "on spider" Adams somehow unnoticed "crawling" the elite.
Of course, the success Michael had before this (take for example his involvement in pretendentskih cycles), but the grandmaster super-elite (namely the top ten), it has become literally a half years ago. It reminds stable, successful game of Adams in all three knockout FIDE (and stability as a sign of class is known) and in the last round robin tournament. However, this year's great success in Michael was not, except that an excellent victory in the traditional tournament Ordix open, but the loss was negligible in rating. Many parties have recently concluded team championship of Europe we have seen all of the same formidable Adams. So at the FIDE world championship Englishman goes to the role of favorite - Tournaments knock-suited him ideally.
