Biography Laszlo SABO
International grandmaster since 1950, Mr..

Three-time tournament players contenders.
Winner of the tournament in Zagreb (1964), Budapest (1965), Sarajevo (1972), Hilversum (1973).

Laszlo Szabo became a worthy successor of glorious traditions of the Hungarian chess laid more MarцЁczy. The first major success came to him at the age of eighteen years. The young artist won the championship of the country (and all he has won eight of their time!). His debut at the Chess Olympiad in Warsaw just did not go unnoticed. Chess pleasantly surprised by the public identity of the young Hungarian - a bright and enterprising. However, major advances occurred in the Sabo postwar period. At a very strong tournament in Groningen (1946), which, in fact, was designed to determine 'who is who', Szabo took fourth, ahead only Botvinnik, Euwe and Smyslov.

It became obvious that in the chess elite, a new name. The fifties were stellar for Sabo. He confidently shown in the zonal and three times in the tournament contenders. However, the nearest approaches to the throne Laszlo spoke not so well. Apparently, affected some one-sidedness of the game and purely human weaknesses (if they can be called such). By nature Sabo was an artist. In positions with the initiative he played with great energy and imagination, finding interesting and paradoxical solutions. However, in viscous positional struggle (especially at high level) Laszlo felt not so confident. Many of the problems he was trying to solve a purely tactical way.

Since the average chess players, this approach has brought rich dividends, but in fights with the strongest often turned defeat. Furthermore, protection was clearly not his forte. Sabo spent most chess life. Even when it seemed that his best results behind us, Laszlo was able to surprise. Great impression on all his victory in Hilversum (1973). Pyatidesyatishestiletny Hungarian grandmaster won the tournament against the best representatives of the younger generation. For many years he was a true leader of the Hungarian Chess. Szabo eleven times defended the colors of his team at the chess Olympiads (five times at the first board).
