Biography Apicius (Apicius)
Apicius, Apicius, under this nickname was famous Roman gourmet Mark Gavy, who lived at the time of Augustus and Tiberius. Under the name A. preserved Roman cookbook culinary arts (De re coquinaria libri X) in 10 parts, dating in its final form, probably, IV in. n. e. in which the author often uses Greek terminology. Recipes contained in it were designed for both palate and for less demanding customers. Perhaps this shows compilation. This work represents a valuable document of Greco-Roman culinary art, and traces of its influence, we find even in the late Middle Ages.
