Archytas, Archytas, of Tarentum, the first half of IV century BC. e., Greek philosopher and scientist. Pythagorean (cm. Pythagoras), who served seven times in his hometown of duties strategist. A friend of Plato, whom he saved from death by the hands of Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse. Study mathematics and music, especially arithmetic and acoustics, was the first to solve mathematical problems by mechanics and introduced mathematical principles in music (a distinction harmonic proportions, arithmetic, geometry).
