Donguz Baltayskogo district of Saratov region in a peasant family. Russian, non-partisan. Primary Education. In 1931-1933 he served in the Soviet Army. He took part in defensive battles of the first period of the war, the Battle of Stalingrad, Ostrogozh-Rossoshanskij offensive, the Battle of Kursk and the liberation of Ukraine. For military distinctions were awarded medals "For Courage" (1943) and "For the Defense of Stalingrad.

. W tion of the Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Ivanovich Bakharev conferred posthumously on Dec. 20, 1943 for bravery and courage in crossing the Dnieper, seizing and holding the bridgehead on the right bank.

G ROUP scouts headed Bakhareva made her way to the Dnieper River, long before the main force regiment

. Deftly working the oars, the scouts in 18 hours 30 minutes unnoticed landed at the designated point on the west bank of the Dnieper and suddenly attacked the vigilance Nazis. In a short battle, striking the enemy fire from rifles, hand grenades and antitank, brave knocked fascists from the first trench, captured two machine-guns, destroyed the gun and won a tiny foothold. Settling in the coastal hill, a group Bakhareva opened machine-gun fire along the trenches.

In the camp of the enemy as soon as there was panic. The Germans were shooting indiscriminately in all directions. The river, on the empty spot, fired dozens of artillery batteries.

And at this time on a nearby site, where it was relatively quiet, began to ferry infantry battalions. By the morning of the bridgehead was expanded, the scouts joined with the main forces regiment, and during the day took part in repelling the numerous enemy counterattacks. In the battle on the beachhead Bakharev killed 25 Nazis.

In the second half of the day the Germans threw in the battle tanks. Some of them broke into the regiment. Anti-tank grenades tore Bakharev caterpillar "tiger" and was preparing to finish it, but at the moment of throwing the next grenade was struck by enemy machine-gun burst.
