By renkel Ernst. Born 24 (11 to st.s.) in December 1903 in the city of Bialystok (now Poland) in the family of Inspector Commercial College. German. In 1910 his family moved to Moscow. He studied at a private school in the Swiss Reformed Church. During the First World War and the Civil War was forced to leave school and go to the laborers. In 1921, he graduated with honors from year courses radiotelegrafistov. Worked at Lyuberetskiy receiving station. In 1924 he settled a radio operator on the first Soviet polar observatory - Matshar. Back in Moscow, working on specialty Ernst did not find, but took up amateur short-wave radios.

In 1927 again got a Matshar. This winter for the first time in the history of ultra-long sessions are held on short wave radio. After Matshara Krenkel worked for some time a radio operator on the hydrographic vessel "Taimyr", then in the Central Research Institute of Communications.

In 1948, Ernst left his job in the NSRA and headed by one of Moscow Radioworks. From 1951 until the last day of work Krenkel proceeded in Hydrometeorological Institute of Instrument. Much work in the institute (and in 1969 he became its director) Ernst managed to combine with a great public work: for many years and until his death was chairman of the Federation of the USSR radio sports, . permanent chairman of the All-Union Philatelic Society.,

. He was buried in Moscow, the Novodevichy cemetery.

Doctor of Geographical Sciences (1938). Awarded 2 orders of Lenin, the Order of Red Banner of Labor, 2 orders of Red Star and medals.
