M archenkov Anatoly Andreyevich - caper 389 th separate engineer battalion (222 th Red Banner Rifle Division, 33rd Army, the 3rd Belorussian Front) Private. Born August 19, 1910 in the village now Gorbovo Elias district of the Ivanovo region in a peasant family. Russian. Member of the CPSU since 1944. He graduated from primary school. He worked as a carpenter on a collective farm. In the Red Army in 1941.
Member of the Great Patriotic War in 1941. Private Marchenkov AA. in battles from June to July 1944 was putting Protnya crossing the river, the Dnieper, Berezina. To restore the destroyed bridges and crossings. Participated in repelling counterattacks on captured bridgeheads in the fighting was wounded three times. During the crossing of the Dnieper in the middle of the crossing came bomb. Part pontoons claimed over. Then Marchenkov proposed to tighten the survivors along the pontoons steel rope and rings to fasten on him the raft. The engineers were working, not paying attention to enemy fire. By midnight, the raft was ready. At dawn, they went to attack the enemy and seized a bridgehead. On the night of June 7, 1944 Marchenkov with a group of mining engineers performed the leading edge near the village of Gorki (Belarus). In the morning, when returning to the job the engineers were going to rest, the enemy suddenly opened artillery fire, after which the attack came the tanks and infantry. Sappers instead of the rest had to take up arms. In the ensuing battle, personally killed four Marchenkov fascists and five captured.
