F ROAR Ivan Evgrafovich pilot test. Born 10 (23) February 1914 in the city of Kharkov (Ukraine). Childhood and adolescence spent in the city of Lugansk (Ukraine). In the Soviet Army from 1932. In 1932 he graduated from Lugansk Air Force Pilot School. He served in line units the Air Force pilot and commander of the youngest managers in Zhytomyr (Ukraine).

From May 1937 to January 1938 participated in the fighting in Spain. On the plane I-16 shot down several enemy aircraft.

After returning from Spain was the commander of a separate unit, an assistant commander and commander of the Fighter Regiment in Zhitomir.
