Biography Diomedes (Diomedes)
Diomedes; Diomedes, presumably, the second half of IV. n. e., a Roman grammarian. From Ars gramatica (The art of correct reading and writing) in 3 books covering lectures about the parts of speech, language elements, metrics and poetics. Of particular note is the section entitled De poematibus in the book. III; everywhere recognized that he is one of the first successful attempts to create a theory of poetics in antiquity. For illustrative cases described, the D. picked up a lot of quotations from ancient authors did not survive, so his work becomes a rare source of excerpts, among other things from the Roman tragedies.
