Biography PANIASS (Panyassis)
Paniass; Panyassis, of Halicarnassus in Caria, intelligence. to 454 g. BC. e., V in the middle of. BC. e., the Greek epic poet, who bore the name of the Carian. A close relative of Herodotus (presumably, uncle). Killed in the fight against Carian Ligdama monarch, who ruled Halicarnassus, on behalf of the Persian king. Author of the heroic epic of Hercules Heraclea (Herakleis; fr.) In 14 books and poems in the elegiac distihah Ionica (Fr.), which describes the history of the Ionian cities in Asia Minor. Creativity P. to some extent influenced the formation of literary inclinations of the young Herodotus.
