1475 - 1514

In the XVI century in Hungary is still the struggle between absolute monarchy and the feudal nobility. King Mathias (Matthias), supported by the people, waged a successful struggle against the feudal. Having gained the throne after his death Ulaslo II (Uladislaus) abolished all the reforms of King Matthias, including the standing army, and the nobles were again the right hand of the King. The country suffered from internecine wars of the feudal. In 1514 the Pope proclaimed a new crusade against Muslims. Gyorgy Dauger, made famous in the war with the Turks, was offered the post of commander. For twenty days, he gathered the people's militia, numbering 60,000 people. Doge developed and carried out military operations. He was accompanied by two priests, whose sermons inspired the soldiers, peasants and urban residents. The feudal lords did not want their men had joined the crusade, and, as harvest time approached, they demanded their return. In response Doge and the priests encouraged the people to revolt. The peasants revolted throughout Hungary, the war with feudal barons. The situation of the peasantry in Hungary at that time was not so unbearable, as in other countries. But having more freedom, the peasants felt more keenly the oppression of serfdom. Continuous wars with the Turks destroyed the country, the population was extremely exhausted, and the peasants rebelled, to compel feudal nobility to make some concessions. The peasants, skilled in the art of war, hoping for the complete liberation. The lowest layer of the clergy, hating the highest ecclesiastical dignitaries, joined the peasants. But they, along with the urban middle class, who also joined the peasant movement, soon betrayed him.
