This kind of actor with an intelligent and courageous person known to all fans of alternative cinema. He embodies a number on the screen almost the most repulsive characters in world cinema, but was able to open and bright side of his talent that made him one of the most enigmatic people of American cinema.

Harvey Keitel was born on May 13, 1939 in Brooklyn. The education he received, mainly on the street (the street knowledge of the laws he then reliably demonstrated in the films "Taxi Driver", "Mean Streets" and "Reservoir Dogs"). He was a clumsy child with poor diction, his shyness and zakompleksovannost led to the fact that he stopped going to school and was anxious his vocal studio. Not knowing what to do in life, Keitel in 16 years arrives in the Marine Corps and went to Lebanon. After returning home a few years he arranged a seller of shoes.

During this period, Harvey discovers his gift of acting, and fate gives him a chance: he met with Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg, who take him under his wing. After an excellent school of acting, Keitel, however, initially received the role only in provincial theaters, that it does not suit. Changed the situation in the emergence of life Keitel young director Martin Scorsese. Harvey responds to the announcement of Martin filed a set of talented actors for the film "Who is knocking at my door?" They meet, and young people is fastened by strong friendship. Its proof is the number of films in which they worked (more than Harvey's, Scorsese has only worked with Robert De Niro). Keitel manages to withdraw from Altman, Rudolph and Ridley Scott, but a significant shift in the career of Keitel made a sample for the role in the movie "Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola. Although the role was Martin Sheen, Keitel noticed and were frequently invited to the episodes in the performance of which he has reached the perfection.

He continued to work, do not hesitate minor roles, all within a 80. The watershed was the painting "The Piano" Jane Campion, in which Keitel played one of the main characters. The film won several prestigious awards, and colorful Harvey begins in great demand. A collaboration with Quentin Tarantino in "Reservoir Psakhie" and "Pulp Fiction" and Robert Rodriguez ( "From Dusk Till Dawn") has brought him real fame and a huge number of fans. Now Keitel literally overwhelmed with offers, but treats them with great intelligibility. During his film career, he earned a reputation as an actor, not afraid to take on roles in serious, non-commercial films, from which one can hardly expect high fees. Artist does not cease to amaze the world with his game. Vividly confirmed - one of the last pictures with his participation, "Holy smoke" in which he again worked with Jane Campion.
