Biography MAVROLIK Francesco
MAVROLIK Francesco (16.IX-21VII 1575) - Italian mathematician, physicist and astronomer. Born in Messina. Was a priest, a teacher of mathematics at Messina in 1569 - a university professor in Messina.

Physics research related to optics. Studied rectilinear propagation of light, its reflection from the plane, spherical, cylindrical and conical mirrors, refraction, watched the spherical aberration, investigated rainbow. Showed that the convex lenses are collective, and concave - scattering that light rays passing through the plate with plane-parallel faces do not change direction, but only shifted parallel to themselves. I explained the rainbow, first pointed out its seven colors, studied the refraction of light in a prism, the anatomy of the eye. Taking the theory of Alhazen believed, however, that the light rays are refracted in the eye lens, as in the lens and causes visual sensation on the retina. The first explained the cause of myopia and hyperopia eyes, seeing her, respectively, in excess or lack of curvature of the lens, explained the principle of the camera - obscura. He gave an explanation of the action points. Published work of Apollonius of Perga, and Archimedes.
