In 1971 he graduated from the High School of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of the name of Antonio Maceo Gomez. In 1978, together with other Cuban pilots Hose Armando LOPES FALCON was selected to prepare for flight on a Soviet spacecraft in the program of cooperation of the socialist countries of the Intercosmos. In the same year, began training at the Cosmonaut Training Center named after Yury Gagarin. It has been fully trained to fly on spacecraft like the Soyuz and the space station "Salyut-6".
