Astronaut Russia. Born in the village of Brest Komarovka Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (now - Republic of Belarus). My father fought with the partisans and was killed in 1944 during the liberation of the Polish city of Radom. The first years of life were spent in the occupation. Childhood and school years spent in his native village. In 1959 he graduated from high school and enrolled in the school initial training of pilots, and then became a student of Chernigov Higher Military Pilot School of the Lenin Komsomol. In 1964 he graduated with honors. Then he served in the aviation wing of the Soviet Army. In 1965 he enlisted in the detachment of Soviet cosmonauts (1965 Group of the Air Force? 3). His third space flight made from June 27 to July 5, 1978, together with the Polish cosmonaut Miroslav Hermaszewski as commander of the spacecraft "Soyuz-30". Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (Decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of 28 December 1973 and July 27, 1975). He was awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order "For Service to the Motherland in the USSR Armed Forces' 3rd degree and medals, as well as one foreign order. Awarded the Gold Medal Tsiolkovsky Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the gold medal of the Academy of Sciences of the Polish People's Republic, a gold medal named after Yury Gagarin and an honorary diploma behalf Komarov (FAI). Winner of State Prizes of the USSR (1978, 1981). Honorary citizen of Kaluga, Gagarin (Russia), Dzhezkazgan (Kazakhstan).
