Biography Stankevicius Rimantas Antanas Antao
Soviet cosmonaut. Born July 26, 1944 in Lithuania, a remote hamlet. Even as a child was very fond of painting planes, which in the end, and defined his whole life. But there were at school and other hobbies: jump with a parachute, swimming, shooting, playing in the school pops orchestra on the accordion, saxophone, clarinet. However, when I was finished high school and had to choose, Rimantas chose aviation. He entered, and in 1966 successfully graduated from Chernigov Higher Military Aviation School. After graduating from college he served in parts of the Air Forces of the USSR in Poland and Egypt. During a combat mission during their stay in the Middle East was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
In 1973 he was discharged from the army with the rank of major and enrolled in school for test pilots. After finishing school for test pilots worked in the Flight Research Institute named after M. M. Gromov. During work mastered 57 types of aircraft for various purposes (military, sports, passenger). Honored Test Pilot of the USSR.
