Research interests: marine geology and geology of zones of transition from continents to oceans. He participated in 11 expeditions in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans and Mediterranean Sea, which resulted in new data about the geological processes occurring on the outskirts of the continents, particularly in the areas of regional upwelling. Been discovered and explored the underwater mud volcanoes in the Black and Ionian Seas, revealed the detailed structure of a number of deep alluvial fans (Danube, Inguri and Messina). They created tectonic classification of continental margins and zones of complicated transition from the continent to the ocean, . were classified main sedimentary formations, . the regularities of the evolution of sedimentary basins in zones of transition from the continent to the ocean, . installed tectonic and lithological conditions of their oil and gas,
. Topic of Ph.D. thesis: Mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of Jurassic deposits of East Predkavkaz'ya in connection with the prospects of their oil and gas. Subject doctoral dissertation: the continental margin: climate sedimentation, geological formation, the evolution in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic.
. Read the original course of lectures geology of continental margins, lectures in the course geology and oil and gas potential of the oceans.
. He has published over 170 scientific papers, t.ch
. 7 monographs. Author of popular science books geology of the ocean: the riddle, hypothesis, discovery (1989), reading the stone chronicle of the Earth (1992).
