Biography Bunkin FV
Born January 17, 1929 in Moscow. Father - Bunkin Vasily Fedorovich (1894-1943), engineer-surveyor. Mother - Bunkin (virgin) Antonina S. (1893-1947), accountant. Brother - Bunkin, Boris V. (1922 g. born.), Academician of Academy of Sciences of Russia, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin and State Prizes of USSR and Russia, scientific director of the Central Design Bureau "Almaz". Wife - Bunkin Ludmila (1927. born.), candidate of biological sciences. Sons: Bunkin Aleksei Fedorovich (1952. born.) Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Bunkin Nikolai Fedorovich (1960. born.) Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

F.V. Bunkin belongs to a generation of physicists of the mid-twentieth century, which transformed the ministry of science to life. They managed to turn the existing presentation, open new paths to the eternal way of knowing the world. These enthusiasts and romantics determined spirit of the times, actively influencing the fate of the country. Their work combines deep fundamental knowledge, supported by experimental data, and the phenomenal intuition - the indispensable companion of discovery. Honors scholars were further developed in the work of their students and followers.

Roots Bunkin - in Vladimir region, in the village of Stavrovo. After the October Revolution, parents settled in the village Aksinino (now - the Moscow neighborhood Khimki-Khovrino). Fedor Vasil'evich Bunkin born in the year of "great change". In 1936 the family moved to the outskirts of Moscow in the two-story barracks, which stood not far from the Bird Market. Father, a surveyor, a lot of time spent in forwarding shipments. F.V. Bunkin was 12 years old when the war. The share of boys fell all the hardships and deprivation difficult wartime. After a 7-th grade, in 1944, he enrolled in college road, and two years later received a matriculation certificate and became a student - a freshman at the thermo faculty of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute.

. In 1947 was declared the admission of students on the 1 st and 2 nd courses of the new physical-technical faculty of Moscow State University (now the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute)
. This is a special institution was founded on the personal orders of Stalin in 1946. Was the beginning of the cold war, and we had a short time to prepare a new generation of physicists, can realize the profound theoretical knowledge in practical affairs. The faculty was assembled the cream of contemporary Soviet physics: P.L. Kapitsa, L.D. Landau, NN. Semenov, MA. Lavrent'ev, MA. Leontovich and many other famous scientists. Successfully passing the interview, F.V. Bunkin in 1947, was enrolled at the 2-year student Faculty.

On the student's time he kept a very vivid memories. Spread on the station "Dolgoprudnaya" Physical-Technical Institute was similar to the Lyceum of the time of Pushkin. Students feel their privileged, elite status, but it is not spoiled them, and has fostered, as with the Decembrists, a spirit of responsibility and ownership of global processes. Students were provided with a brilliant career: many of them rapidly gone from graduate to membership in the Academy of Sciences. His future work of the Mathematics and Physics lived up to their expectations.

In 1951, graduate students Fedor Bunkin married soon after, in 1952, received a diploma of engineer-radio physics.

Scientific career F.V. Bunkin began a 20-year-old student in 1949 in the famous Laboratory fluctuations Physics Institute named P.N. Lebedev, USSR Academy of Sciences (FIAN), with the participation of radio astronomy in the Crimean expedition on the mountain cat in Simeis. In this work involves the first of his publications. They were devoted to calculations of the fluctuation sensitivity of the wireless devices to measure the relative temperature of the solar corona, the theory of heat radiation anisotropic media, in particular, the solar corona, taking into account its magnetic field. These results formed in 1955 in the master's thesis, done under the supervision of Professor SM. Rytov. It Sergei Mikhailovich considers F.V. Bunkin his first teacher

. Work on the statistical radio postgraduate period (1952-1955) resulted in the further development of general theoretical approaches to the study of fluctuations in nonlinear and nonequilibrium systems of different physical nature (doctoral dissertation, . 1963, . LPI),
.

Since mid-1960 F.V. Bunkin - one of the leading researchers in the field of laser physics. A large number of works in this field was carried out in conjunction with п?.п?. Prokhorov, Nobel Prize 1964. Aleksandr Mikhailovich F.V. Bunkin considers his second teacher.

. The first work here were associated with the investigation of ionization and dissociation of molecules in a strong field of optical radiation (1964), . multi-quantum external photoelectric effect in metals and the inhibitory effect in gases (1965), . interaction of short laser pulses with matter (1967),
. In these years F.V. Bunkin manage a team of staff who performs a large amount of experimental and theoretical work, including work, given government regulations. Been discovered and investigated now become the classic phenomenon: an optical (laser) discharge in the regime of slow combustion (1969), low-threshold optical breakdown of gas near the solid surface ( "laser spark", 1973). From this work grew a new application areas of laser physics - laser thermochemistry, laser technology to create new materials, laser jet engines.

Using the ideas and technical capabilities of laser physics in acoustics led to the discovery of O. V. Bunkin and his staff a range of new phenomena: the laser excitation of sound in the liquid (1973), phase conjugation of ultrasonic beams (1981), thermal samokontsentratsiya ultrasonic radiation in viscous liquids (1985). Study of these phenomena led to the production of new effective applications for the technology of ultrasonic nondestructive testing, ultrasonic microscopy, biomedical technology.

In condensed matter physics F.V. Bunkin first formulated and developed a new scientific discipline, in fact - optotermodinamiku (1974). In terms of its ideas of predicted and experimentally observed in liquid stratified solutions using light-induced critical opalescence (1979), the concentration of light self-action (1984), light-induced spinodal decomposition (1988). Theoretically predicted and experimentally confirmed by the bubble mechanism of optical breakdown of transparent liquids (1993).

Physics of the second half of the twentieth century was not simply a science. It has become socially significant phenomenon affecting the fate of entire nations and the defining geopolitical picture of the world. Science is used to create new weapons systems and security, strengthening the military might of Power. Tasks have changed: first in the agenda was the creation of the bomb, then - a system of air and missile defense. Much of the work F.V. Bunkin and his colleagues classified "Top Secret". These include, first of all, the study of the impact of powerful laser radiation on matter, which is the physical basis of laser weapons. One of the first major work on the use of laser physics for defense purposes, "Omega", was held in conjunction with KB behalf AA. Raspletina "Diamond", the general designer of which was an older brother F.V. Bunkin, Boris V. Bunkin. Construction of the building for the Institute of General Physics, was a "prize" for this job. To perpetuate the memory of the project, the foundation of the building was laid hollow capsule is made of stainless steel, which screwed the Greek letter "omega".

First State Award, received F.V. Bunkin in 1982, was "closed", with a common phrase - "for a set of physical research". These spetsraboty have negative consequences - for many years F.V. Bunkin remained "restricted to leave". For the first time he was abroad in 1966 at the conference as part of a large Soviet delegation in the GDR.

A separate phase of scientific activity of academician F.V. Bunkin connected with the naval theme, published in the forefront during the confrontation of superpowers. In the late 1970's he turned to a completely new way for themselves and applied scientific direction - the low-frequency hydroacoustics Ocean, laser and radar remote diagnostics of the surface layer of the ocean. Under his leadership, carried out comprehensive studies further spread of low-frequency sound in the Barents Sea at distances up to 400 kilometers. For the first time carried out unique experiments on stationary acoustic paths, which allowed to determine the influence of tidal currents and internal waves on the nature of the fluctuations of the sound signals. In a series of ocean space was carried out works on laser and radar sounding from aboard aircraft and ships, . allowed to develop techniques for diagnosing the parameters of sea wave, . undersea disturbances, . pollution of the oceanic environment,
.

In 1976 F.V. Bunkin was elected a corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1992 - a member of Russia Academy of Sciences (RAS). From 1983 to 1998, he was - Deputy Director General Physics Institute (IOFAN), since 1998 - Director of Wave Research Center IOFAN.

Created F.V. Bunkin in 1998, Wave Research Center (NTSVI IOFAN) is currently conducting basic research on laser spectroscopy of liquid, . nonlinear acoustics, . condensed state, . hydrophysics, . laser micro, . continues to develop the technical means for the acoustic and optical diagnostics environment,
.

Fedor Vasil'evich Bunkin - by more than 300 scientific papers in domestic and foreign journals. Generalizing the results of research in established areas of research are published in the journal "Uspekhi" (1972, 1974, 1976, 1980, 1982, 1986, 1995), in books, "Studies in hydrophysics: Proceedings of the Physical Institute, named P. N. Lebedev, USSR Academy of Sciences (Moscow: Nauka, . 1984), . "Remote sensing of the ocean: Proceedings of the Institute of General Physics, RAS (Moscow: Nauka, . 1986), . "Lasers in Acoustics" (Harwood Academic Academic Publishers, . 1991), . "Selected Works" (Moscow: Science: Fizmatlit, . 1999).,

. For many years F.V
. Bunkin is chairman of the Council for the Protection of doctoral theses. He is deputy editor of Izvestia RAN, physical series, chief editor of the journal "Physics of Vibration" and Russia's abstract journal "Physics", works on the editorial boards of several scientific journals have. From 1977 to 1993 headed the Scientific Council of the USSR on Coherent and nonlinear optics, which determines the direction of basic research in this area.

In connection with the 50 birthday F.V. Bunkin awarded the Order of Red Banner of Labor. In 1985, for the completion of government work, he noted the Order of Friendship of Peoples, and in 2000 in connection with the 275 th anniversary of Russia Academy of Science - Order of Merit to the Fatherland ". In 1999, for the discovery and study of the phenomenon of laser burning and continuous optical discharge F.V. Bunkin awarded the State Prize of Russia. He is an Honorary Doctor of the University of Szeged (Hungary).

F.V. Bunkin sure that the scientific school - is a team of employees and associates, not only in science but in life terms. He likes the academic tradition, he considers himself to school п?.п?. Prokhorov and the second generation - the school LI. M.. At the same time F.V. Bunkin himself created a scientific school of physicists working in the field of radio physics, optics, acoustics, and Hydrophysics. His pupils - is not only dozens of highly qualified specialists in Russia, CIS and far abroad. As a major organizer of Soviet science, he was at the forefront of laboratories and departments, which are now headed by his disciples and followers.

Vneprofessionalnye hobbies Fyodor harmoniously with the work in physics, which occupies the highest place in the scale of his values in life. This stayersky running, skiing and water tourism. In sports it is just as stubborn, as well as in scientific research - is estimated to colleagues, ran about a third of the equator.

Recently, FV Bunkin observed their golden wedding. Modern-minded people, it largely adheres to traditional foundations of Russia's way of life. Under the law considers himself the head of a large family, consisting of 11 people, and feels directly responsible for the fate of children and grandchildren. His sons never really taught anything, because convinced that personal behavior - the best example. That hard work led the father of his children to continue the scientific dynasty. Today, both sons - Doctor of Science, successfully working in new areas of physics. Perhaps the biggest pride F.V. Bunkin - granddaughter of architect that gave my grandfather great-granddaughter.

Today Fedor is full of creativity and new ideas, who generously shared with younger colleagues. He is actively working for the benefit of Russia's science, inspiring their colleagues spiritual resistance, the same sense of humor and optimism.

Lives and works in Moscow.
