Todt, Fritz (Todt), (1891-1942), Reich minister of armaments and ammunition. Born September 4, 1891 in Pforheyme (Baden) in the owner's family jewelry factory. After high school, he studied at the Higher Technical School in Munich (1911-14) and Karlsruhe (1918-20). Participant 1-st world war: in 1914-16 he served on the Western Front in 1916-18 - a reconnaissance aircraft, was wounded in an air battle. After the war worked as a civil engineer. In 1923 he joined the Nazi party.

In 1931 became Standartenfiihrer SS (colonel) in the Office Himmler. Be led by the organization in 1933, is building the most important military facilities, including defensive structures and highways. At the same time was appointed head of the Four Year Plan. In 1938 he commissioned the construction of defensive structures "West Wall". In 1940-42 Todt headed the Ministry of weapons and ammunition. Died in a plane crash under Rastenburg February 8, 1942. Official opinion read that the plane "Heinkel-111, which flew Todt, was provided with a mechanism of automatic self-destruction, and the pilot mistakenly switched his. Post Todt took the court architect of Hitler, Albert Speer, who became Reich Minister of armaments and military industries.
