Jean Antoine Condorcet (1743 - 1794) - French mathematician and sociologist, known as the representative of the French Enlightenment. His philosophical and sociological views have immediate affinity with the views of the French encyclopedists. Blagadarya his work on geometry, integral calculus and astronomy Condorcet in 26 years, becomes a member of the Academy of Sciences, in 1773, Mr.. has served as Secretary of the Academy.

In 1789, Mr.. elected as a member of the Commune d. Paris, where he was charged with developing a plan of reorganization of Community. In 1790, Mr.. organizes political review "Library public figure, speaking to him with a number of philosophical and political articles, working together with Sieyes in the Journal of the Society in 1789". In 1791, Mr.. elected to the Legislature, participated in its work, first as secretary, then deputy chairman of the meeting, participates in the commission for drafting a constitution. In his political views were close to the Girondins, but was not included in their number. While not agree with the policies of the Jacobin Convent, vehemently opposed the arrest of the Girondins, is developing its draft constitution and will not stop public opposition to the Jacobin leadership of the French Republic. The Convention rejects the draft and decide on the arrest of Condorcet. A few months Condorcet hiding in the house of the widow of the sculptor Vernet gave him shelter in spite of the fact that she was at it for the death penalty. Being in the shelter, Condorcet wrote philosophical and historical work "Sketch of a historical picture of progress of the human mind". In March 1794, not wishing to continue to expose the woman took him in mortal danger, Condorcet leaves her house. Not having available any documents, he was soon arrested and sent to prison Bourg-la-ren. Being in prison and wanting to avoid a public execution, March 29 Condorcet prininimaet poison.
