Biography Matsuo Basho
Matsuo Basho (real name - Munefusa, 1644-1694) - the great Japanese poet, who played a major role in the formation of the poetic genre haikai. Basho was born in Iga province in the central part of Honshu, in a poor samurai family, a child received a good education. In 1672,. left their homes and moved to Edo (modern Tokyo), where he joined one of the leading schools of poetry of the time - Danrin. In an effort to go beyond the principles of this school, whose adherents considered somewhat simplistic poetry haikai, appealed to Chinese literature and philosophy.
