Kenichi Sonoda (p. 13.12.1962, Osaka) - a famous designer and manga, one of the founders of the Japanese aesthetic of cyberpunk.
Already in his youth Sonoda became an amateur manga artist, creator dе-jinshi, and very successful in this area.
At the age of 21 Sonoda moved from Osaka to Tokyo, where, demonstrating their work, found work at the company "Artmic" as an animator and character designer.
His debut was OAV "Pretenders" [Wanna Be's] (1985), dedicated to women's wrestling. Immediately identify priorities Sonoda - "cool girl", weapons and vehicles. All this was shown already in his next work - a science-fiction OAV "Maiden's Power: The eternal history" [Gall Force: Eternal Story] (1986), which tells about the civilization, which consists of some girls. "Maiden force" was very popular and spawned many sequels. Designs Sonoda played here an important role.
The most significant work in the anime was Sonoda cyberpunk-OAV-series "The crisis every day" [Bubblegum Crisis] (1987-1991), whose characters literally fell in love with not only Japan but the whole world.
Simultaneously Sonoda TV series written and published manga "Rob on wheels" [Riding Bean] about the adventures of dashing " 'brother' in the contemporary Chicago. In 1989, he took an active part in the film adaptation of the manga in the form of OAV.
In 1991, the studio "Artmic" bankrupt, and Sonoda had lost a lot of money and, most importantly, the right to "Bob on wheels".
As an independent artist, he in 1991 began to publish in the magazine "Afternoon" manga "Oruzheynitsy" [Gunsmith Cats] about the adventures of all in the same Chicago two girls - private detectives. In 1995, this manga has been dramatized in the form of OAV-series.
