STIBITS (Stibitz) George, an American mathematician, creator of one of the first electromechanical computing devices - a binary adder.
In 1937 Stibits, Officer, Bell Laboratories, the company unit of AT & T, in the home was able to create the first in the U.S. electromechanical circuit that performs binary addition operation - binary adder. Job devices based on the provisions of Boolean logic, logic gates, and the role it played in electromechanical relays. Binary adder Stibitsa is now an integral part of any digital computer.
In 1939 Stibits with employees Samuel Williams has developed a device capable of folding complex numbers, and perform subtraction, multiplication, division. This is a device they called a calculator of complex numbers (Complex Number Calculator).
In 1940 Stibitsa apparatus was used for calculations in the management of Bell. With the teletype was linked with remote offices of the company, allowing their staff to use the calculator at a distance.
