Biography Dawit An Guilim
Dawit AP GUILIM (Dafydd ap Gwilym) (ca. 1325 - ca. 1380), one of the greatest poets who have written to the Welsh. Born in a noble Norman family, of Wales, in South Wales, between 1320 and 1330. About his life we know almost nothing - except that he was educated by his uncle, in Emlyn Castle, and later joined the brotherhood of bards and life wandering in Wales. He died about Dawit. 1380.
Due to its noble origin Dawit was able to devote himself entirely to the beloved, and the independence allowed him a lot of experimenting, inventing new poetic dimensions and choosing the topics on my own. He wrote mainly love lyrics, 'Morning Serenade' (aubades) and poems about nature. Dawit was the first uelsskim poet, who appealed to the modern spoken language, giving up a sophisticated scientific imagery of poetry, as well as a complicated syntax and archaic vocabulary. The interpretation of the traditional topics Dawit resonates with the work of Provencal troubadours and Vagant - wandering German students.
