Katulsky, ELENA KLIMENTEVNA (1888-1966), Russian singer (lyric coloratura soprano).
Born in Odessa on May 21 (2 June) 1888. Studied at the music courses Leglera (piano, then vocal class II Suprunenko). In 1905 she moved to St. Petersburg, where she handled vocals for IP Pryanishnikova, and in 1907-1909 worked in the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the class NA Iretskaya. His debut as LakmцL (in the opera by Delibes L.) at the Mariinsky Theater in 1909 at the invitation of Governor Imperial Theaters Telyakovsky VA, where she sang until 1913. In 1911, she first performed at the Bolshoi Theater and in 1913-1946 he was the soloist, and then (until 1951) - Senior Consultant vocal theater. She has performed as a chamber singer (until 1958), sang in concerts S. Koussevitzky, the 'historical concerts' SN Vasilenko. Since 1911, toured the cities of Russia, Bessarabia (with VR Petrov). In 1918-1922 was perfected in the Bolshoi Opera Studio under the direction of Stanislavsky. In Soviet times, was also in the cities of the Caucasus, the Far East, as well as abroad - in Mongolia and Poland. In 1948-1966 she taught at the Moscow Conservatory (from 1950 as professor). Among her students - AD Maslennikov, TA Milashkina, N. Dobriyanova (Bulgaria), a famous Chinese singer Guo Shuchshen. In 1950 was awarded the Stalin Prize. In 1965 received the title 'People's Artist of the USSR'. Her repertoire includes more than 45 parties, among them best are the party Snegurochki and Martha (respectively, in the opera "Snow Maiden" and "The Tsar's Bride Rimsky-Korsakov). Her partners were G. Pirogov, LV Sobinov, IV Tartak, FIShalyapin. Katulsky - author of many articles on the vocal arts, as well as memories of the singers of contemporary.
Katulsky died in Moscow on November 19, 1966.
