In philosophy Remusat was close to the eclectic spiritualism B. Cousin. In the paper "Experiments on the philosophy" (Essais de philosophie, 1842, 2 vol.) Argued, in contrast Cabanis, the existence of the spiritual principle in man, in the form of consciousness. Philosophy understood as the study of the human spirit in introspection. Exploring the organization of philosophical sciences, Remusat singled out - depending on whether, in what area the spirit of examining himself, - various disciplines. When the question of compliance with the laws of the spirit and laws of existence, the spirit manifests itself in the sphere of metaphysics. Like Cousin, Remusat has adopted an eclectic method, believing that to solve philosophical problems allows critical association of ideas of Descartes, Reid and Kant. With Descartes, we should agree that the starting point of knowledge - is self-consciousness, 'I', but on condition that we have followed T. Reed recognize as authentic perception of 'not-I'. In this case, however, all the natural human ability to obey certain rules, a priori laws of the human spirit, which investigated Kant. In this paper, "Religious Philosophy. On natural theology in France and in England "(Philosophie religieuse. De la thologie naturelle en France et en Angleterre, 1864) Remusat thinking about the philosophical concept of God. God of the philosophers - just an idea, a product of pure reason, its reality can be proved, and the most compelling here is the teleological argument. But the idea of pure reason, as opposed to objects of perception and consciousness, can not imagine. Only religion makes God can be represented by denying his ideal, since it rests not on reason but on tradition, ie. facts that are confirmed by history. Consequently, the philosophical concept of God based on religious thinking - a distortion of it.
