From the Serbian genus (erected in 1722 to the noble dignity of the Holy Roman Empire), the father of the D. in 1752 came to Russia, where he obtained the rank of Major-General. In 1777 recorded a cadet in the Wallachian Hussars. Service began in 1782 lieutenant Ukrainian Hussars, in 1787 transferred to a lieutenant in the Smolensk Dragoon Regiment. Member of the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-91 and the military action in Poland in 1792 and 1794. Participated in the Battle of Causeni, taking Ackerman and Bender. In 1798 transferred to (the Life Guards Hussar Regiment Colonel. He participated in the conspiracy, which resulted in the murder of Emperor Paul 1. In March, 1803 transferred to the Cavalry Regiment. 16/5/1803 promoted to major general and appointed commander of his regiment (remained in office until 1826). At the head of the regiment made a brilliant attack during the battle of Austerlitz, which gave the time of the Russian Guards to escape the impact of the French. During the attack Cavalier lost 15 officers and 200 rank and file. For this feat D. was awarded the Order of St.. George 3rd degree. In a campaign in 1807 distinguished himself in battles with Guttshtadte, Heilsberg and Friedland. Since October. 1810 commander of the 1-st Cuirassier division, comprising the entire heavy cavalry Guards. During the war of 1812 distinguished himself in the battles of Vitebsk, Smolensk, Borodino, Tarutino Maloyaroslavets, Vyazma, Red. In 1813-14 campaigns successfully operated at Lц+tzen, Bautzen, Dresden, Leipzig. In contrast to the battle of Kulm (1813) made a lieutenant-general. Especially famous for brilliant attack in Fer-Champenoise, where his actions decided the outcome of the battle. In December. 1821 - Feb.. 1835 commander of the 1 st Reserve Cavalry Corps (from 1824 - Guards Corps). During the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-29 commanded the Guards units in the army. From 1822 member of the Alexander Committee of the wounded. By the end of life D. almost totally deaf. Buried at the Smolensk Orthodox cemetery.

His brother Leontius (1766 - 7.2.1844), Major General (13.8.1799), from August. 1799 commanded the Guards regiment of Semenov and actively participated in the conspiracy against Paul I. Distinguished at Austerlitz (awarded the Order of St.. George 3rd degree), but after unsuccessful action at Friedland dismissed.
