Marcello Vincenzo Domenico Mastroianni was born September 28, 1923 in Italy, in the town of Fontana Liri, a peasant family. During the Second World War was in a German labor camp, escaped and hid until the war in Venice.

After the war, Mastroianni moved to Rome, where he worked as a clerk, and in the evenings engaged in acting studio and played in local theaters. There he found and directed by Luchino Visconti, in the company which then an actor and played. As mute Marcello Mastroianni began acting in movies even before the war, but his serious acting debut in 1947 in the film, Ricardo Fred `Les Miserables'.

During his career, Marcello Mastroianni starred in the 139 (!) Films, has been awarded numerous professional awards, including three nominations for `Oscar`. The last time the `Oscar ', he was nominated in 1988 for his role in the film by Nikita Mikhalkov' Dark Eyes' (1987). Since 1950, Mastroianni was married to Italian actress Flora Karabelle in 1972 he and a daughter, Catherine Deneuve.

Marcello Mastroianni died in Paris on December 19, 1996 from pancreatic cancer.
