Russia and Kazakhstan disagree on sum of damage from Proton fall
Russia and Kazakhstan could not agree a sum of damage from a Proton-M missile. A compensation sum of the damage will be determined in December 2007, head of Roskosmos (Russian Space Agency) Anatoly Perminov told reporters in Astana on Tuesday.
"We put a rigid deadline for the working group: all calculations should be completed by December," Perminov stated.
He noted that "a working group was set up. It is engaged in determining a cost of the damage since last Monday".
"The Russian side officially stated that it recognises the need for compensation expenses, connected with measures on exposing reasons, assessment and overcoming of the breakdown under condition of checking calculations and initial confirming documents," Perminov emphasised.
The lift-off of the Russian Proton-M launch vehicle went away from the Baikonur cosmodrome on last September 6. Fragments of the missile dropped 40-60 kilometres away from the city of Dzhezkazgan, Karaganda region. The Kazakh side submitted its own calculations on redemption of the damage from the Proton?s fall. According these calculations, Russia is to pay 1.5 billion roubles.
