At the LHC opened a new class of particles

During experiments at the large hadron Collider scientists of the European organization for nuclear research (CERN) have got to open a new class of particle - pentaquark. This sensational news, comparable to the discovery of the Higgs boson, will allow researchers to better understand the structure of matter.

Pentaquark - particle, consisting of 5 quarks. Its existence was first predicted theoretically by Russian scientists from St. Petersburg University nuclear physics D. I. Diakonov, M. V. Polyakov and V. Y. Petrov in 1997. Now, in the process of the LHCb experiment at the Large hadron Collider followers CERN the presence of pentaquarks officially approved.

"Pentaquark is not just a new particle. He suggests a new mechanism of unification of quarks - specifically of them are simple protons and neutrons. Nothing like science've never seen in 50 years of existence, experimental particle physics", - quotes the Manager of the experiment LHCb guy Wilkinson TASS.

As us reports Department of public relations at CERN, research pentaquark will allow scientists to better understand the nature of matter. As for the experiment, called LHCb, this is one of 4 large studies conducted in the Large hadron Collider. During the other 2 ATLAS and CMS in 2012 opened the Higgs boson is the particle responsible for the existence of mass in the Universe.
