Winners of 2009 Los Premios MTV Awards, Lady GaGa Collects Two Gongs
Lady GaGa adds two trophies to her collection at 2009 Los Premios MTV Awards. She is named Best International Artist, beating The Veronicas, Taylor Swift, Ashley Tisdale and McFly. She also gets Song of the Year title, thanks to her hit single "Poker Face". In this category, she pushes aside Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Kings of Leon and Wisin & Yandel.
Though losing Song of the Year to Lady GaGa, Wisin & Yandel still manage to walk home with double victories, taking home Artist of the Year and Video of the Year prizes. This is the first time the Puerto Rican reggaeton win at the event. "I want to thank Mexico, Puerto Rico and all the Latinos who support our music," Wisin says. He also thanks rapper 50 Cent who is the announcer for Artist of the Year, "Also, someone who always believed in the revolution: 50 Cent."
Another singer who scores her first award at the show is Paulina Rubio. Named Best Solo Artist, she says during her acceptance speech, "So early, I wasn`t expecting this. I want to thank my fans who have been voting day and night for (the song) `Causa y efecto.` I`m the cause - you are the effect."
Other winners include Jonas Brothers as Best International Pop Artist, Green Day as Best International Rock Artist and Calle 13 as Best Urban Artist. Hosted by Nelly Furtado alongside Calle 13`s Residente, the show was conducted on October 15 at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Prior to the main event, there were three special shows recorded on September 30 in Argentina, October 5 in Mexico and October 11 in Colombia.
