The Oklahoma earthquake struck
On the outskirts of Oklahoma, one of the key world centers of oil, an earthquake of magnitude 5 points, which could damage key infrastructure in addition to the damaged buildings.
The Corporation stated that the Geological survey of Oklahoma investigates the consequences of the earthquake that struck at 7:44 am.
"The Department of pipeline safety of the OSS was in contact with the pipeline operators in the terminal for the storage of petroleum under state jurisdiction and there were no immediate reports of any problems," reported the press Secretary of the Commission Matt Skinner. "Evaluation of the infrastructure continues."
In recent years, Oklahoma was hit by thousands of earthquakes, all near the underground injection of wastewater left over from oil and gas. The quake on Sunday was centered one mile West of Cushing, and approximately 25 miles South from where the force of the earthquake has forced the closure of several wells last week.
The USGS originally said the quake on Sunday had a magnitude of 5.3, but later lowered to 5.0. Photos posted on social media show piles of debris on the basis of commercial buildings in the city. Cushing police evacuated the centre of the city because of reports of a gas leak and test infrastructure.
Cushing, which has a population of about 7,900 itself as the "Pipeline crossroads of the world". It is home to a massive store of oil, which is touted as the biggest in the world.
