Hunter: the Pentagon will allow Russia to follow the US troops
Congressman Duncan hunter warns that a new attempt of the Pentagon to provide troops that are in places like Iraq, cheap Internet can give the Russians access to their personal information.
Congressman Duncan hunter wrote to the Pentagon Friday that cheap Internet "creates unnecessary security risks." "Our soldiers may be exposed to transfer their personal information over unsecured networks, which are controlled by foreign and potentially hostile enemies," writes the Agency defense hunter, who served as an officer in the marine Corps in Iraq and Afghanistan.
American troops, especially those located at large bases, often use online services through military programs that allow troops to remain in touch with family and friends. According to hunter, at the moment, efforts to provide online services "primarily delivered through a secure satellite" and have "strict security measures."
But hunter warned that a proposed contract for a new service will aim to cut costs through the use of the local Internet cafes and Internet signals transferring via Russian satellites. Hackers have tried to find out personal information of members of the military service of the United States in the past. In March, a previously unknown hacker group has posted online the names, photographs and addresses of about 100 American troops and has called for attacks against them.
