For the first time, scientists have recorded a conversation between the dolphins, said the Russian scholar.
Two adult black sea bottlenose Dolphin, named Jacob and Ian, do not interrupt each other during interaction with scientists and may have formed words and sentences in a series of pulses. "Essentially, this exchange resembles a conversation between two people," said Ryabov.
Joshua Smith, research fellow Murdoch University Cetacean says he will need to conduct more research before scientists believe that dolphins talk.
"I think it's very early to draw conclusions about what dolphins use signals in the form of language context, like humans," he told CNN. There are two different types of the noises dolphins use to communicate, whistle and click, also known as pulses.
Using new methods of recording, Ryabov shared separate "non-coherent pulses" of two dolphins, and theorized each pulse as a word in the language of the dolphins, while the collection of pulses was the offer.
"Since this language has all the design features that are present in human conversational speech, this indicates a high level of intelligence and consciousness in dolphins," he said in the article, which was published in the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University last month.
"Their language can allegedly be considered a highly spoken language." In his article, Ryabov encourages people to create a device with which people can communicate with dolphins. "People need to take the first step to establish a relationship with the first sentient inhabitants of planet Earth, creating a device that can overcome the barriers that stand in the way ... of communication between dolphins and humans," he said.
