Russian Sparrow hopes to soar to Eurovision finals
The future of the Russian contestant in the next Eurovision Song Contest is to be decided on Tuesday night. Aleksey Vorobyov, who took the stage name Alex Sparrow, will sing his "Get You" entry, under number seven.
The first semi-final of Eurovision-2011 will take place on May 10 in the German city of Dusseldorf.
Aleksey Vorobyov has already held thee rehearsals at the Dusseldorf Arena. However, in all three of them the Russian hopeful has experienced various difficulties and had to reorganize his act.
The first rehearsal was unsuccessful due to the lack of time. The second one revealed that one of the most impressive parts of Vorobyov`s act - his salto on stage - will not be seen from the audience`s seats due to the location of the screens. The third rehearsal passed without one of the key backing vocalists. The girl missed the rehearsal and will not be able to sing together with Alexey at the first semi-final due to health problems.
"We managed to cope with the situation," said Vorobiov`s producer Katerina von Gechmen-Valdek. "We were saved by Aleksey Vorobyov `s vocals tutor, Swedish star Kishti Tomita from RedOne`s team, who agreed to come on stage with her apprentice," Gechmen-Valdek told Itar-Tass news agency.
"Get You" was composed by Grammy-winning internationally acclaimed producer RedOne, who is known for his work with Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and other pop stars.
Along with Russian Vorobiov, representatives from Poland, Norway, Albania, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, Switzerland, Georgia, Finland, Malta, San-Marino, Croatia, Iceland, Hungary, Portugal, Lithuania, Azerbaijan and Greece will fight it out in the first semi-finals for a place in the final battle. Ten of the 19 contestants will take part in the finals.
Bookmakers say that Azerbaijan and Hungary are considered the strongest among the first semi-final representatives and are likely to make it to the finals. Russian Alex Sparrow is currently 11 out of 19 with the bookmakers, however the singer promised to do his utmost to win Eurovision this year.
The second semi-final of Eurovision-2011 will take place on May 12. The finalist will be named on May 14. The winner`s country gets the privilege of hosting the next edition of the glitzy song contest.
