Russians die due to methanol poisoning
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, November 9 - A total of 33 people have died in Magadan as a result of methanol poisoning.
The people, mainly men aged from 45 to 60 were dying in the region in the period from October 28 to November 6, deputy governor of the Magadan region Yuri Muromtsev told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. He heads the headquarters for the investigation of the people`s death. Police, Prosecutor`s Office and Federal Security Service (FSB) officers are involved in the investigation.
According to the press centre of the Magadan regional police department, almost all the people who died of industrial alcohol poisoning were unemployed. According to preliminary information, they got the lethal alcohol surrogate at glassware recycling outlets where they came to return bottles for money.
