APEC leaders to discuss bird-flu threat
BUSAN (South Korea), November 15 - The leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) group will discuss measures against the spread of bird flu during the November 18-19 APEC leaders` summit in South Korea, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.
"On November 18-19, APEC leaders will discuss further cooperation in healthcare, including measures against the spread of infectious diseases such as avian flu," Lavrov said after a meeting between APEC foreign and trade ministers.
Earlier, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi intended to propose measures to counter the spread of avian flu at the upcoming summit.
Lavrov also said the participants at the summit would discuss cooperation in natural disaster relief management, energy security, and the fight against corruption.
