Russian gymnast Aleksey Nemov got main award of Fair Play - prize Pier de Kuberten in nomination "For deed"
Nemov is an owner of 12 Olympic medals, including 4 golden ones.
He is the first representative of Russia national sport who was awarded honorable trophy for all history of Fair Play since 1963.
This year international committee Fair Play awarded 40 sportsmen from 26 countries of the world. Festive ceremony took place at Olympic center in Warszawa.
His first golden medal Nemov won in 1996 in Atlanta. He became twofold Olympic champion then. 4 years later he conquered another 2 golden medals in Sydney.
In 2004 at summer Olympiad in Athens an unexampled incident in the history of Olympic movement happened. Whole world observed at real time how judges put low marks for brilliant performance of Russian gymnast. 20 minutes later judges increased points but it didn`t save the situation. Nemov didn`t win deserved golden medal for the most hard program; he was not even on pedestal of honor.
Public whistled at judges, fans were mad, and competitions were stopped. Despite the fact that next participant from USA was ready to show his performance, people at tribunes continued to whistle, showing thumb down.
Aleksey Nemov shocked by reaction of audience, came to platform and thanked them for support by gestures and sending kisses. Nemov came to the audience second time and asked to calm down, pressing finger to lips.
In Warszawa Russian sportsman got main prize Fair Play for "fair game, for sport deed".
