Ramzan Kadyrov refused to rename Groznyy in honor of father
Acting Chechen premier-minister Ramzan Kadyrov didn`t support the idea of National Assembly of the republic to rename Groznyy town to Akhmad-kala.
"I don`t see any reasons for rename of Groznyy. If we want to immortalize memory about Kadyrov, the best way is reconstruction of Groznyy from ruins", - announced Ramzan Kadyrov on Wednesday evening.
In opinion of acting premier it is necessary to focus efforts on creation of favorable conditions of life in Chechnya.
As a reminder, delegates appealed to rename capital of republic in honor of dead president Akhmad-Hadji Kadyrov during first session of Chechen National Assembly on December 14.
Delegates appealed to Russian parliament with request to support the suggestion. Parliamentarians ground their decision with the fact that current name of capital is not connected with history of Chechen nation.
In their opinion, Groznyy was named after fortress Groznaya, based in the beginning of 19-th century, and only sad for Chechen people recollections are connected with it.
Akhmad Kadyrov died on May 9, 2004 in terrorist action on "Dinamo" stadium in Groznyy. After his death main prospect of Groznyy was renamed in prospect Kadyrov. Moreover, lots of monuments to Akhmad Kadyrov are erected in Chechen settlements. One of them is situated on square in center of Groznyy. It was constructed by famous sculptor Zurab Cereteli.
