The Ukrainian Parliament has appointed Valery Geletey the head of the Ministry of defense
The Ukrainian Parliament on the proposal of the President of the country has appointed Colonel General Valery Geletey defense Minister of the country. Relevant draft resolution at the meeting of Verkhovna Rada on Thursday endorsed 260 parliamentarians with the necessary minimum of 226 votes.
According to the current Ukrainian Constitution, the leader asks Parliament the candidacy of defense Minister and head of the SBU. The duties of the head of the Ministry of defense were performed by Mykhailo Koval.

Geletey was one of the key siloviki surrounding the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko: he worked as the head of HUGO from 2007 to 2009. In 2008 geletey caused to a duel, MP of Ukraine from the Party of regions Nestor Shufrych. The politician took up the challenge, but later opponents publicly reconciled.
