Three suns in sky of Saratov: rare atmospheric phenomenon
Citizens of Saratov have observed a rare atmospheric phenomenon: on Wednesday morning "three" suns rose from the horizon and stayed for a while at one horizontal line. There also was a shining crown above the middle luminary.
As the physics faculty Dean of Saratov State University Igor Saly explained, such a "play of light" appears as a result of sun rays refraction in crystal clouds brought by abrupt fall of temperature.
"Three suns usually appear in fair weather, when the sun is rather law above the horizon and the air is slightly hazy. Such a unique picture is more usual for Arctic latitude, where even rainbow may appear in the sky", said Saly, having added, that according to ethnoscience, such phenomena forecast severe frost.
Many Saratov inhabitants, who can see only a part of the sky from their windows, mistook one of the "three" suns for the real rising sun, added the Dean.
