Gorbachev petition for nomination Soviet submarine K-19 crew to Nobel Peace Prize
Ex-President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev asks to nominate to Nobel Peace Prize 20006 the crew of Soviet submarine K-19, who liquidated the accident on board of the submarine, which was in the Norwegian Sea, on July 4, 1961.
The press-service of "Gorbachev-Fund" has reported that Gorbachev has sent an appropriate petition to Nobel Committee.
Mikhail Gorbachev notes in his letter, that "due to individual courage of these sailors the heroes, in fact, the thermal blast of reactor and further ecocatastrophe in the area of ocean water were prevented (the explosion on K-19 could have been dozen times more powerful then in Chernobyl NPP)".
Besides, he has drawn attention to the fact, that the explosion on K-19 could have brought to the Third World War.
"Everybody, who was on submarine board that morning, who executed their duties in accordance with personnel arrangements, deserve to be recognized by human community as people who, being each on their place, did everything possible to preserve peace on the Earth", thinks Gorbachev.
