Bird flu expected in Tatarstan in spring
Spread of bird flu virus on the territory of Tatarstan is possible in spring this year, informs the head of Main Administration of Veterinary attached to Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers Bulat Kamalov.
Ministry of Ecology and Federal Centre of toxicology and radiation animal safety specialists agree that the virus is likely to appear in the Republic this year. Several birds migration routs go through Tatarstan, and the number of birds passing the Republic achieves 4 million.
The situation worsens with the fact that the region is saturated with ponds, which serve the places of temporary stops for migrant birds. First of all poultry of private farms may appear under the threat. The poultry in private farms prone to contact with migrant birds, in contrast to poultry brought up in closed battery farms.
According to Bulat Kamalov, poultry vaccination may save the situation, the republic can not afford livestock annihilation, it could bring too much damage to economics.
One dose of vaccine against bird flu costs 3 rubles, the Republic has already ordered 15 million doses. This amount should cover 5 million hens, geese, ducks and other birds treatment. However, it is not so easy, each bird must underwent trice-repeated vaccination
