Chess tournament "Aeroflot Open 2006" starts in Moscow


Traditional chess tournament "Aeroflot Open" starts in Moscow on Tuesday. This year competitions celebrate first jubilee - 5-th anniversary.

"This year we expect 2-times world champion among juniors Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Vladimir Akopyan, one of Russian Superfinal championship winner Dmitry Yakovlenko, Russian female team to participate in the tournament. We hope that championship will be held at high creative level", - has announced the executive director of the tournament Alexander Bach.

The prize fund of the tournament amounts to $175 thousands. Gross-master, who will take first place in main tournament A1 (players with rating of 2550 and higher), will earn $30 thousands, second place is estimated at $17 thousands, third place - $10 thousands.

The organizers has informed that there will be creative prizes this year - for example, for most beautiful game of chess. Moreover, the winner will acquire the right to participate in prestige super tournament, which will be held in German Dortmund.

Competitions will be held in 9 tours according to Swiss system. Unlike previous years chess players will compete in "Ismailovo" complex and not in "Russia" hotel, which is subjected to demolition. The winner of 2005 was Israeli gross-master Emil Sutovsky.
